Consortium members always must be aware of contingency plans for having an alternate water supply. This would be an alternate spot to drill a well, for example, to access water. This consortium is constantly evaluating the water supply and the capacity of it to meet demands of the public.
For example, if a contamination found its way into the public water system, the alternate water sites that were previously identified could be accessed. It would permanently used for the public or used until the contaminated water could be tested and remediated.
Regarding the water supply, consortium members:
Actively assist with the evaluation of expansion options of the aquifer to meet current water availability.
Annually evaluate contingency plans for all of the Consortium members and the areas that they represent. They revise them into the best possible contingency plans in the event of an emergency contamination.
When they do decide on a site for production well development, a pollution source inventory is conducted and the water is must be confirmed a safe drinking water source.
Keeping up with the goals of the Alternate Water Supplies ensures the community the best opportunity of having clean, unpolluted groundwater. The Consortium plays a major role in making certain the public is safe and healthy.
